Tips that may help you when applying to work in Canada

  • Realize the importance of language skills. Your own mother tongue can be an asset for finding a job in Canada. Although it's not necessary to be completely fluent in English to find a job in Canada, a good understanding of English is very important. Remember, having a conversation in a social setting is very different than a business meeting.
  • Several local and regional newspapers are good resources in helping you find employment. Check the Vancouver Sun and Vancouver Province, and free newspapers such as the Georgia Straight, the West Ender and the North Shore News. C&N Backpackers works with highly qualified and prestigious job agencies that can help place you in the right job.
  • The application process is very competitive so it's important to actively sell yourself.
  • Keep your resume or CV short. Do not include personal details, such as your marrital status or whether you have kids. The focus of your job application should be to persuade prospective employers to invite you in for an interview. Your resume is a marketing tool which should be adapted to the market in which you intend to work.
  • A Canadian job application covering letter should be typed in a short, professional style. While staying at C&N Backpacker's hostel you may use our office equipment. A work tool kit created by one of the largest employment agencies in Vancouver will help you focus on the important issues.
  • Your covering letter and application should always contain a Canadian mailing address and telephone number where you can be reached.
